It’s not the picture. He was never qualified. He had a demonstrated history of bias with rent and other shady business history.

He also did the full page ad on the exonerated five. He called Mexicans rapists. He held hate rallies. He objectified women. He mocked a gold star family and reporter with a disability.

Yet three times some people still saw more of themselves in him than they did the opposing candidate.

They chose him. Three times. And they would do it again. Still now.

Remember what the astronauts said over and over. They looked back at us from so far away and longed for home, to return to our collective embrace, to feel wind, to run with animals, to hear the waves, to slosh in life’s elixir, water.
