As an author who uses @draft2digital solely for library distribution, these so-called modest annual fees are a gut punch. The justification is to mitigate AI slop, but at the expense of human creators.
Library royalties are tiny, especially via Hoopla (about $0.25). You'd need SO MANY borrows to hit $100 via library loans. This means I either have to remove my books from libraries entirely or simply not get paid for those borrows after D2D eats my royalties.
