Can you understand the meaning of the saying? 🧐

No,no! Even many Chinese people don’t fully understand this sentence. Most people understand the first two parts,
but they often get confused about the last “知”.
Here, it doesn’t simply mean “to know”, but is interpreted as “wisdom” (智). 😎 It means that recognizing our ignorance is a form of wisdom.

👍And the pronunciation of the last "知" is same as "智".

《論語·為政第二》是整篇,共24章。

第17章

子曰:「由!誨女知之乎!知之為知之,不知為不知,是知也。」

第18章
子張學干櫟。
子曰:「多聞闕疑,慎言其餘,則寡尤。多見闕疑,慎行其餘,則寡悔。言寡尤,行寡悔,祿在其中矣。」

At its simplest, it means to know what you know and admit what you do not. It is a warning against the ego’s desire to appear knowledgeable. True wisdom isn't just about how much information you have gathered; it is the ability to accurately distinguish between your certainties and your ignorances.

This is a simplified version of Confucius's saying, "When you know something, admit that you know it; and when you don't know something, admit that you don't know it - that is true knowledge."

Know what you know, and admit what you don’t know.

It’s just Chinese-English phrasing. The joke is that the original line sounds like direct, literal translation rather than natural English.
