One reason I think Black folks often go so hard for and remain loyal to abusers is because so much of Afro-American identity has been shaped by being abused by the people we were socialized into aspiring to be like.
White people have abused us for centuries yet we spend every day trying to be like them and have what they have. We crave whiteness and aspire towards it in nearly everything we do.
We love abusers because that’s encoded into our identity.
To reject abusers is radical.
