I’d guess if the astronauts heard people expressing regret about their lives as a message taken by some people about the mission: that they didn’t try hard enough, or fell off a path, etc, they’d be very sad about that. Just being alive is the message. They wanted to come home. They wanted to hug people they loved. They wanted to be here. So don’t be hard on yourself. That’s heartbreaking. As Christina said “Earth is a crew”.
