If you take the time to see who I am and what I’m about, you’ll see that “I was just following orders” is not an excuse I will accept and yes they should be refusing orders that are war crimes. However, you know just as well as I know that both regimes are pros at playing the propaganda machine game. There is plenty being fed to these troops that is probably framing what they are doing as somehow the “right” thing.
Any troops knowingly taking active part in attacks that aren’t on military installations should be held responsible. The problem is that there is not full stories being fed with the orders, and the commanding officers could be literally TELLING these servicemembers that they are attacking anything EXCEPT for what they are attacking in truth. And, they never know until after the fact when the truth comes out and they are being fed to the wolves for following orders that they didn’t know were bad.
