The ballistics were inconclusive. The "inconclusive" result doesn't necessarily mean the gun didn't fire the bullet; rather, it means the physical evidence was too damaged for a definitive match.

They can't make a match. This is not the same as "does not match" The bullet probably looks like the lower right pic. There has to be enough to compare size and rifling marks to the barrel. Then it would likely only prove the bullet came from that model, unless there is some distinctive damage in the barrel that transfered to the bullet.

Everyone that knows anything about guns have been saying this the entire time. 30-06 is not a short action round and almost nobody is field stripping their rifle and jumping off the roof that fast
I didn't read it that way. I read it as the fragment of a bullet cannot positively confirm the weapon used and that sometimes happens when you only have fragments.
Please provide the link to the evidence.

The FBI findings were inconclusive. This happens a lot more often than tv makes it out. Some bullets deform and fragment upon impact. Sometimes the rifling marks are hard to match. The findings simply said that the condition of the bullet made it unclear what weapon the bullet came from: it does not change the fact that Mr Robinson's fingerprints were found on the rifle and casings.
Prove that the casings had anything at all to do with the bullet that killed Kirk.
Prove that the fingerprints on the gun was the gun that fired the kill shot.
These are important details, that cannot be assumed in a murder trial.
So the magic bullet (that can shoot the neck of a deer to smithereens) wasn't shot from the magic rifle? (Magic rifle that can disassemble /reassemble in a few seconds and become so small it can be seen on video) Strange? I wonder if the guys removing stuff from Kirk seconds after he is hit has anything to do with the whole thing?
I’m no ballistics expert but I have shot a .306 and it doesn’t put a nice clean little hole in soft objects
