i just like…don’t get why you’d *want* a new harry potter show. as someone who loves the books, loved the films, has all the audiobooks, bought a fucking wand. someone who genuinely believes that series probably saved my life at times when i felt most alone and has mourned the utter piece of shit jk rowling showed herself to be…just why? like i get still reading the books you own and having a soft spot for the movies you grew up with but why the new show? to be a shill for capitalism brainrot?
I’m seeing the edges of some capitalism vs community discourse on self-publishing vs indie press and I’ll just say that Amazon thinks free books cost them money and being self-published means you have full control over your prices and if you organize a giant free event that meets readers where they are at, that’s delightfully disruptive AND makes authors money from read through.
It’s hard to fight the system. It’s easier when we’re fed.
