I wanted to be an RAF fighter pilot until I found out I needed glasses.

There was no point in pursuing my flying passion to become a fighter pilot. I had to pivot to my natural talents.

Step 2: Dedicate everything to a job

Work to learn, not just to earn.

Your current job could actually be training you to set up your future business.

I worked as a carpenter and hated it.

But I learned woodwork, technical design, quoting, and customer service.

Later, when manufacturing my own products globally, this knowledge was gold.

Step 3: Nurture your contacts & image

Your image and contacts are everything.

We judge people in seconds, especially on social media.

At the 1993 helicopter championships, I was devastated after failing to qualify.

So I executed a plan that changed everything...

I loaded my helicopter with a secret weapon and flew the first-ever model helicopter firework display.

Everyone was in awe. Sparks, explosions, flips through the sky.

I got more TV coverage than the actual winners.

This sounds like a whole lot of “wait to develop skills before starting something”, when in reality you could just start a business and learn all of these things on fly and you would learn a hell of a lot more

i think both approaches work, to be honest. i worked very hard before i started a business
