I’m going to be brutally honest- when I saw this clip (from yesterday) of PM Mark Carney responding to Chrissy Isaacs advocating for justice for her community of Grassy Narrows First Nation which suffered one of the worst mass community poisoning’s in Canadian history- the words that left my mouth are not suitable for print.

This moment captures everything. The dismissal. The mockery. The colonial arrogance Canada has never stopped performing. More to come…

He is responding to an anonymous heckler during a planned announcement. Dishonestly clutching your pearls is a bad look for you.

I was upset as well. I found it extremely annoying that a loud rude person was screaming unintelligible words during the PM news conference. I was surprised security didn’t remove her. I thought PM Carney gave the person more grace and respect then they deserved

Completely disagree. Citizens need to hear these updates and when one person is shouting and interrupting it lacks civility. Can you imagine if everyone who has a grievance yelled everytime our govt officials made announcements? The presser was booked for a specific purpose - to inform Canadians on a specific topic.

He was on video acknowledging protesters right to be there. You convieniently skipped that part. He did not mock her. He followed through with his press conference. Your misinformation is the problem here.

1. Grassy Narrows tragedy is real and should be investigated and acknowledged.
2. Interruption and screaming at a press conference does not advance or help the people of Grassy Narrows.
3. Was this Chrissy Isaacs real agenda - being performative? How was this about the Grassy Narrows tragedy?

After when asked about the protest he said this is Canada and that it was appropriate to protest

Yep, like I said he’s amazing! Not perfect but amazing! He‘s working so hard I don’t know how he keeps it up. Sometimes I wonder if he sleeps.

You’re twisting valid grassy narrows issues into being disruptive/interrupting/rudeness! PMMC handled heckling…very well!

He was reacting to a heckler. Not complicated. Take a pill.

How does anyone know who she is? I just hear incoherent yelling. How is that helpful to anyone?

She was interrupting him…. His comment only reflected this truth. Stop making up things that were never said. 🛑

It’s an important issue to be sure, but what does someone expect when then are yelling something at the back of a planned press announcement, an invite up to the mic?

The amount of white racists in the replies is why we can’t have nice things. Carney is the face of Canada and when he silences First Nations voices he continues the legacy of Canadian colonial violence.

She was behaving like a 4 year old having a tantrum…rude, entitled to have the spotlight, struggling to handle big emotions appropriately.

If I say what I feel am
I going to be labelled a colonizer?
Even though I support the AB community with my whole chest!
Victim empathy is slowly fading Brandi!
I honestly think it’s because of things like this!
This was a public event, he supported the protester, he couldn’t hear them, made a giggle to lighten the air, nothing more and nothing less!
It wasn’t THAT deep!

Stay in your lane, the news conference yesterday was NOT to discuss Grassy Narrows First nation. Chrissy Isaacs was out of line with her yelling. She gained NOTHING with her disrespectful behaviour!

Thank you for sharing this. It's not just another indicator that Mark Carney is not the Leader Canada needs, it's a gross example of the work that still needs to be done to even come close to reconciliation. We can *and must* do better.

This was a bad take. It wasn't the PM being dismissive. It was a protestor. Did you expect him to invite her to the mic?

Canadians, who have clean drinking water & tap water, telling people without those things to “ask nicely” for a human right - is grotesque. You’re all speaking from a place of privilege, so is Carney. He will never have to worry about his water being unsafe.

A lot of white liberals in these comments are behaving almost indistinguishably from white conservatives. Tone policing and pearl clutching about decorum when this is about posioned drinking water and a racist comment about living longer than someone...who is in an area with poisoned drinking water. Libs can do land acknowledgements all day but won't actually be allies to Indigenous people when push comes to shove. That's part of why Liberalism is a failed ideology and certainly is not the Left.

It was disruptive and hard to hear the Prime Minister. That said she was allowed to protest. She was not removed. That is democracy. That is this government allowing the voice of the people to be just that, a voice.
He said " I can out last her - don't worry" and " Ah I can hear the construction again".
On the flip side PP would have had her removed and likely charged.

If someone is yelling " something " to heckle him, his response is perfectly acceptable. There are ways to speak to people, yelling from the audience isn't actually a good one. He gets heckled sometimes and his reaction is exactly this.

He did nothing wrong. A random voice is interupting the press conference and he makes a little joke to ease tension.

Afterward he stated in Canada one has the right to protest.

Although I feel for this lady and her cause, yelling like that when the PM was speaking is just rude & achieves nothing. Not sure of her particular situation in Grassy Narrows but Trudeau got 80% of the indegenous peoples water issues fixed and my understanding is that we are actively working on the others? NO?

I am so sickened by the number of responses to this by people who simply cannot see the ugliness, dismissiveness, and contempt the PM showed toward an Indigenous woman whose people have waiting decades to have their human right to cleane water acknowledged. Shame on us.

Someone yelling incoherently does nothing for their cause. And a new water treatment plant starts construction this spring. My question is why was the mine allowed to get away with the contamination that happened in the late ‘60’s.

PMMC is stating what is being accomplished, and being heckled. Your mischaracterization does not help your cause. Targeting those that are making the best strides towards reconciliation in our nation’s history, is counterproductive.

Find Conservatives, and let them have it. That’s where the problem lies. We don’t need to hear what Poilievre says anyway.

We cant erase the past, nor do we want to hide it.. but we need a path forward together.

Sorry I disagree. That wasn’t the time to do that. It was an announcement about building homes and had nothing to do with the shouting despite the message. I couldn’t even make out her words either. Stop with the colonial arrogance nonsense, it’s not why he was there.
