Agents do not get paid unless they sell a book. That means they are reading queries/emails/proposals for free. Advances, in general, are low-mid-five-figures (if you're lucky). Agents must wait for publishers to issue checks (takes forever). Most publishers pay advances in thirds. If we are talking about an advance of $10K-$20K, 15% of each of those payments do not amount to much. No one is ignoring you on purpose; they are just drowning in queries.

I'm so glad I didn't give up. I may not be where I want to be but I'm for sure not where I use to be.

Our system of checks and balances had a fatal flaw: it assumed a baseline level of intrgrity and ethics from elected officials who respected the system of government we built.

When the entire system is instead infested with criminals whose sole purpose was to exploit the system itself for their own greed and avarice, they just say “nah” and court orders become mere suggestions.

I really hope I’m alive to see the systemic changes that we need, but I fear it won’t happen in my lifetime.
