It must have been actually wild to like just get a job and your friends also get a job and then you all stay at those jobs
And then you buy a house with your money from your job and you put money from your job in your savings account and your 401k and you build a nest egg and it's just normal and expected.

I was just talking about this yesterday.
We actually lived in a time when anyone could get hired, stay at their job for decades, and make enough money to survive. It feels like I’m talking about the 1950s, but I entered the professional workforce in 1997.
I’m a genx and i personally have multiple friends who are at the same jobs they started after college. They’ve been at places for 20+ years. It’s crazy, those days are over
I’m genX & never managed to hold a job for more than a decade without a company going bankrupt, and/or huge layoffs. It’s never fun.
Same with me and my husband. We tend to change jobs every 1 to 10 years. One of us is always looking for a new job or role. I guess we picked the wrong industries.
Traded the American Dream for cheap stuff and corporate profits.
Would totally change how you thought about institutions! And then if they just keep paying you forever after you retire...? I know it sounds crazy but I know some super old people it has happened to
My dad was in Navy for 27 years. Has now been retired for 33 years. Still getting paid. Kind of feel like I am paying him with my tax dollars.
