NEW: Iran’s Science Ministry moves all university classes online — indefinitely, as war continues

Iran’s Ministry of Science says at least 21 universities have been damaged in strikes since the war began.

A new academic term was set to begin in early April, but all classes will now be held virtually until further notice.

CNN geolocated footage showing damaged buildings at Iran University of Science and Technology — founded in 1929 as Iran’s first engineering institution — with a research center reduced to rubble and a nearby building on fire.

Tehran is framing the strikes as an attempt to “bomb away knowledge,” with Foreign Minister Araghchi accusing the U.S. and Israel of targeting Iran’s scientific and cultural foundations.

The IRGC warned it would retaliate against American- and Israeli-affiliated universities across the Middle East — campuses in Qatar, UAE, Iraq, and Lebanon remain on high alert.

Iranian authorities have allegedly moved universities online during domestic unrest — campuses have historically been the primary space for political opposition when parties are banned and opposition figures are imprisoned.
