The Iranians clearly understand us WAY more than we understand them.

I'm not an elected official who is paid to understand them. The blame lies with those in command who were certified as worthy of their cabinet positions by legislators afraid of losing their cushy jobs.

Of course it matters. I was referring to the fact that the best schools only take the best foreign students. Thus we have some of the best representatives from the US schools in technical fields and medical.
That's like that for literally every country on this planet. The US is a cultural juggernaut. That aside, understanding the US is not a choice for many places. Their very survival depends on it. Watch any interview where Putin discusses how the US operates and it's clear that he understands this place and government infinitely better than most voters.
