Women didn’t fight to work. Women have ALWAYS worked. Women fought to get paid.
Women fought for a CHOICE
Women fought to be in PAID EMPLOYMENT.
People saying that women fought for a choice don’t realise that being a SAHM mom is unpaid labor
We fought for having equal rights to men: paid work, the right to vote, the right to open a bankaccount without authorisation, have a mortgage, take own financial decisions, right to bodily autonomy. That is what we fought for and stil are fighting for.
We fought to benefit from our own labor.
Country women worked hard since like ever. Farm work is extremely hard work.
Rich women didn't work. They didn't have to, cause poor women did everything for them. Nannies, cooks, maids... Female factory workers made their pretty stuf, female farmers made their food, seamstresses made their dresses etc. People who say women weren't working before XXth century are living in an American 50s coca cola asm
Why do people always seem to forget about jobs like maid, cook, waitress, seamstress, etc? Only certain classes of women were ever “not allowed” to work outside the home.
Because Advertising in the mid 20th century taught Boomer children that a stay-at-home wife is a LUXURY ITEM…literally a thing to be purchased.
Years ago, my Nana was telling me how she met my Papa where they both worked. She said she was expected to quit once they married. Papa was the boss, so he made good money. I asked what women did who could not afford to quit. She said they had to find work cleaning houses. I asked what if they couldn’t find a job like that. Nana said, “They starved.”
My Grandma is in her 80s. She got a scholarship to go to one semester of college and that's it. She panicked when that semester was up because she literally had no options. She said she wouldn't have been able to get a job (I'm not sure what her particular circumstances were, I'll ask her next time I see her, cause I need to make sure I get this info before she's gone), and her father was abusive so she couldn't go home. My grandpa married her basically to keep her from being homeless.
Gotta love a man quoting a woman for clout and not giving her any credit
And working class women went out to work too.
The very word Spinster dates back to 16th century and defines legal status of unmarried women by the occupation many were engaged in...spinning of fibres.
Honestly, some women do not deserve the benefit of the sacrifice made by women before them.
You are so right about that. Squandering their freedom on soldiering for the patriarchy.
That’s what I always say. People are so brainwashed by the 1950s “American way of life” propaganda that they seriously believe most women were SAHM throughout history. Women had already been working in factories, being doctors, nurses, teachers, midwives. Medieval peasants were toiling the fields. In ancient Egypt they were making beer and papyrus. Noble women were scholars. Free ancient roman women owned businesses, were performers, “Viking” women were farmers and shield maidens +
What women were fighting for in the west was for equal opportunities and pay, the right to vote, the right to own property, etc. During the first feminist wave, women were ALREADY WORKING and gruesomely toiling at the factories in England during the Industrial Revolution. What established international women’s was a tragic fire in a factory that killed over 100 women laborers. The 1950s housewive archetype was created as backlash to all the freedom women acquired during the war, when they +
Took over men’s jobs and their pay, and they wanted to keep their jobs once the men returned, so Big Brother had to find a way to convince them to “return” to a place of domestic subservience that never existed in the first place
just gonna leave this here 🥰
A man loved it so much he copied, naturally
All you had to do was put quotation marks around that comment and add

or

after it. Why didn't you?
Also fought to be able to keep our earnings - not have them automatically become some man’s property
Funny, I was just reading today about the life of Amy Beach, a composer in the early 20th century. She composed while her husband was alive but couldn’t get paid for it until he died, because it was “unseemly”.
You have to be incredibly uncritical to not acknowledge that women have always worked since the beginning of times, they just never received compensation for it.
Like hauling water from the well, washing clothes by hand, making clothes, milking cows, ploughing, making goods to sell at market, childcare, cooking, cleaning, etc, are not work? Factory jobs weren't work? Maids?
The “single income” was literally an Industrial Revolution invention where it became convenient for one person to sell their labor to the market to purchase goods and the other to stay home to turn those purchased goods into usable objects. Notice that both are in fact labor. Read Stephanie Coontz and Alice Clark. Women fought for: property rights, an end to financial discrimination, control over their own earnings, protections against sexual harassment, maternity leave. Not the “right to work”.
I cannot imagine why a woman would want to have control over her own choices. Why would a woman want to be treated like an adult instead of a child with an allowance when some man approves of her. How could a woman ever want that?
對啊,女人本來就一直工作!爭取的是公平薪水啦~姐妹加油💪
On a cooking show recently, a host introduced a contestant who said he was a stay-at-home dad for two young children.
The host went crazy, giving him the highest praise, calling him a Super Hero, cheering him on with high fives!!!! I wanted to scream 😱
Women have always cared for their children at home, often without recognition or support, and they continue to so in very challenging situations. Are women deemed Super Heros in our society?!
Nope, didn't think so.
We have fought for the right to CHOOSE TO WORK
I am for equality. Now that women get paid they can pay their half the utilities, half the rent/mortgage, pay for me maintaining the house, protection, stability, moral support, for emotional support over the phone. Yes men too can price tag every little thing. Sit down before you trip over yourself.
☝️☝️👌 women have always worked !!!!
Why are you stealing women’s content? @designmom said the exact same thing literally hours before you posted this. Really icky
