My mom met her at an airport once loooooong ago. Big crowd, my mom waits until it dies down cause she just wants to go tell her she's a fan. Last two guys in front of her get an autograph and say, "your music sucks, but you're hot" and walk off. Mom immediately goes over and apologizes to her, can't believe people are like this, etc. And Dolly just puts a hand on her shoulder and says, "Oh honey, you're so cute"
My favorite moment in "Steel Magnolias" is when Spud decides to go to Shelby's funeral with Truvy. Truly puts the closed sign in the screen door of the beauty shop, turns to see Spud in his suit, and says, "You look real nice." And the director didn't think Dolly could act. The honesty in that moment is perfect. Watch it.
